Overview
There has been an incredible increase in the number on Nigerian students that want to further their life goals by studying in Canada, as Canada has become an attractive destination for international students dues to their immigration programs that allow easy transition for international students who studied within the country.
The developments of the Canadian education system in the past decade is also considered part of the reason hundreds of thousands of internationals students go to Canada for undergraduate and post graduate degrees.
Compared to the infamous costs of study in the United States of America for international students, Canada offers adequate academic programs for less. The basic structure of Canadian education is 3-tiered – elementary, secondary and post-secondary.

Elementary school:
Grades 1 – 6 (Nigerian equivalent is Primary 1 – 6)
Middle/Junior high school:
Grades 7-9, but can also include grades 6-8 or 7-8 depending on the Province.
Semesters:
September to January: First Semester
January to March or April: Second Semester
March or April to June: Third Semester
Elementary education encompasses the first six years of mandatory schooling, focusing on essential subjects such as mathematics, sciences, languages, social studies, physical education, introductory arts, and health. This curriculum is designed to equip children with the foundational skills necessary to become valuable members of society.
Middle school curriculum focuses on key academic skills, exploration of new subjects, and developing critical thinking, communication, and creativity skills.
Subject areas can include Applied Design, Skills and Technologies, Arts, Athletics, Exploratory and Life Skills, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Outdoor Education.
In Canada, Secondary education, also known as high school, typically starts in grades 9 or 10 and continues through grade 12, with Quebec starting in grade 7 and ending in grade 11.
Secondary education in Canada is the stage of schooling that follows elementary or primary education (grades 1-8) and prepares students for post-secondary studies (college or university) or vocational training.
In most provinces and territories, secondary school encompasses grades 9 to 12. Quebec's secondary education starts in grade 7 and ends in grade 11.
